Archie Andrews or "hey dickhead" if he was Australian - is back in 'Archie's Valentine's Spectacular'
and it's a 4/10 for me.
It’s time for another review - this time of Archie Comics’ 2024 Valentines day special, Archie’s Valentines Spectacular - because your mother asked for it!
Archie Andrews, Archibald Andrews, or if he was Australian would just be referred to as “hey dickhead!” - and his friends, are back for another swath of conservatively mediocre slice of life short stories in this anthology which Florida probably WOULDN’T ban. Probably not.
Let’s face it. They’d find a way.
Speaking of dickheads, this manufactured holiday one-shot featuring the Riverdale rejects, Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and all the rest of them, continues blathering on like Archie Andrews hasn’t by now contracted and spread around a whole new strain of aggressive syphilis.
Maxing out at 6 pages each, Archie’s Valentines Spectacular presents 5 stories in theme with the problematic holiday about love which isn’t really a holiday and is more just a means to prop up capitalism.
You have the first story; Ian Flynn’s Paths to the Heart - where Betty and Veronica have gone clearly insane when they start seeing the three spirits of Valentine’s Day.
There’s the second and most interesting story of the bunch; Francis Bonnet’s Heartbreaker Havoc - where Sabrina Spellman makes an appearance and in attempts to do Jughead a “solid” she ends up unleashing an Anti-Love Demon which causes havoc!
